I’d like to tell the story of why I started playing tennis – and you should too. I was living in a suburban area that more or less required me to drive around everywhere, and it was really hard to meet people. You really underestimate just how much walking you can do in the city during the day. It’s also easy to forget just how hard it is to meet people in suburban areas. Basically, I was out of shape within a year and still had zero friends by that point.
One day, I started browsing around on Meetup.com, and I managed to find a tennis meetup. I actually didn’t know the first thing about tennis. However, I really was anxious to meet people, and I figured that I might as well get some exercise in the process. I didn’t think that joining this tennis meetup would change my life.
I made a lot of great friends through the tennis meetup. Seriously, pretty much my entire social circle came from there. Some of them were even nurses! Did you know there are tennis shoes made specifically for nurses? I sure didn’t but my friends recommended the best tennis shoes for nurses when I asked for some advice. I’m not a nurse but my job requires me to move like one so they just might work for me!
Anyway, I honestly didn’t think that there were any people my own age in this area, but I found plenty of people like that. I thought that the fact that I didn’t know how to play tennis was going to be a problem. Instead, pretty much everyone else there was more than willing to help me learn how to play.
Now, I’m actually good at tennis. I also managed to lose about twenty pounds over the course of a year, and I’ve stayed in shape ever since thanks to a steady regimen of tennis. Since all of my friends play tennis and we all meet up to play tennis, there’s no chance of skipping a workout the way there would be in other cases. I would honestly recommend something similar to everyone. Your social life does count towards your health. Your social life can help you look after your health in other ways, too.
